SWEET FRAGRANCE LOVERS
By: Dalia A.
I love everything and anything that is vanilla and caramel. From my dessert to my …perfume? Yes, that’s right! There’s something about a perfume that has sweet notes – it feels like a big, warm, hug. I personally can’t wear or stand scents that have strong floral notes, they leave me with a terrible migraine. I decided to share my top 5 perfumes because, I take pride in smelling nice and people often ask me what I’m wearing. The perfumes I’ve listed below are mostly higher end perfumes, but they’re definitely worth every penny.
Notes: Caramel, Chocolate, Honey, Vanilla , Patchouli
This perfume was the first perfume I ever owned (not including Eau de Toilette purchases). I remember the first time I ever smelt Angel. An old friend of mine introduced me to this perfume. I used to tell her all the time that she smelt like a box of chocolates. I must admit, I used to give her extra long hugs, because I was in love with the scent. Not only did she smell like a box of chocolates she was as sweet as one too. For my birthday she gifted me with my very own, first bottle, of Angel perfume by Thierry Mugler. Over the years of owning this perfume, I have noticed how unique it is. For the first few hours of wearing it, you will smell the chocolate notes, then after a few hours of it settling in on your skin, you will start to smell the patchouli note. I personally love wearing this scent all year around (summer or winter). A little spritz of this goes a long way. If you want to smell like the inside of a Bath and Body Shop during the Fall and Winter season, you will probably want to go in for a second spritz. This perfume reminds me of my younger days in University and College. It has a youthful smell, but not to say anyone above the age of 25 can’t wear it; my mom owns a bottle of her own Angel too. The 1.7oz bottle retails at Sephora for 138 Canadian dollars.
Notes: Blood Orange, Ginger, Pear Sorbet, Sambac Jasmine, Orange Blossom, Seringa Flower, Lavender Honey, Precious Woods Complex, Vanilla.
The first bottle I ever owned of this perfume was for my 20th birthday. Hey ! I’m noticing a trend here…people gifting me with perfume. Hmmm… were they trying to tell me something? haha. The friend who had gifted this to me, was a male friend of mine at the time. I remember opening it and thinking to myself, how on earth would he know what perfume I like? Looking back at it now, I think because I always wore Angel, he knew what I liked. I know you are probably wondering, how this made it to my top 5 since the first few notes are floral notes (the thing I said I dislike most). However, that being said, since they are fruity floral notes- they give off a sweet scent. Therefore, the fruity floral notes (Blood Orange, Pear Sorbet, Orange Blossom) and the other sweet notes (Honey and Vanilla) pair very well together. This is more of a perfume you may want to wear in the evening. This perfume will start off your night feeling sexy, sophisticated and alluring, similar to the vibes the bottle gives off. The Aramani Code retails at Sephora for 102 Canadian Dollars for it’s 1.7 oz bottle. Spritz yourself this Fall/ Winter with this long lasting, Armani Code Women and let the ginger-vanilla notes leaving you feeling like sugar, spice and everything nice!
Notes: Coffee Accord, Orange Blossom, Cedarwood Essence, Patchouli Essence.
If you love perfume as much as I do, you will think that the first note in this perfume is quite ironic. For those of you that don’t know, here’s a fun fact. Coffee beans clear the nose and “increase sensitivity for the next evaluation ” . Take a whiff of coffee beans in between perfume samples the next time you’re trying to figure out which one you want to buy. The aroma of the Black Opium will make you want to wear it mostly during the evening and will remind you of the Fall/Winter season. It’s moderately long lasting and most times I’ve worn this perfume, men have complimented me and asked me what i’m wearing. I love a spritz of this perfume on a special night out (a wedding, a gala, birthday dinner, etc.) It smells luxurious and sophisticated. I consider this perfume to be a mature scent, it doesn’t give off a “young and fresh” aroma. I can’t imagine a young girl wearing this- but by all means, do you boo! This perfume was launched by YSL in 2014. It was announced as their rock’n’roll interpretation; which explains the dark bottle with metallic specs all over. This perfume retails for 110 Canadian Dollars for the 1.6 oz bottle at Sephora.
Notes: Jasmine, Wood, Vanilla, Tonka Bean.
Are you looking for a perfume with sweet notes that will last you all day long? This is the one for you! Although I am confident in knowing this perfume can last you all day, I would recommend wearing it in the evening. The reason why I love YSL Manifesto L’elixir is because of it’s Jasmine note. It’s nostalgic scent reminds me of my trips to Egypt smelling the blooming Jasmines on the trees. I love the combination of Jasmine and Vanilla notes. It is a sexy, feminine and sensual scent. I recommend wearing this during the winter season because it will leave you and those around you feeling like Winter embraced everyone with a a warm, strong hug. Unfortunately, I think YSL has discontinued making it (it’s not on their YSL site). I also can’t find it on the Canada or America Sephora. However, I did find it here.
Notes: Caramel – Ground almond – Caramelised chestnut – Vanilla – Cedar – Musk
I know some of you are probably asking, why include this in a top 5 perfume list when this is clearly an Eau de Toilette. In all fairness, this perfume is long lasting- as long as some of my perfumes. I spray it on my way out the door and I find that it lasts all day on my skin. It most definitely is a sweet vanilla scent. It smells like a vanilla cupcake in a bottle. This perfume is for those who are die hard, vanilla lovers or else it might come off as, overpoweringly-sweet. This is a young and yet mature scent. The exterior of the bottle is covered with a beautiful, pink pleather. This is the perfect spritz when you’re off to run a quick errand, or off to meet a date. This perfume retails on the Zara website for 12.95 EUR.
If you are a perfume lover like myself. You will want to place your perfume in an organized and beautiful manner. I wanted to share my trick! I took a spice rack (that spins) and placed a round embroidered fabric for decoration. The fabric also ensures that the glass bottles won’t slip or slide off the rack.
